About this forum.

We originally set up this forum to chronicle all the media the Toronto scene was getting. As time went on, it became a valuable resource and time capsule of sorts and we hope it will be of help to others.

One thing I want to point out though; since most of the articles posted in here are from regular newspapers and media the bulk of the articles are overwhelmingly negative (good news never sells papers) and that should be taken into account for anyone that is using this forum for their own research.

About the, "good news doesn't sell papers" thing. You'd think good news about the rave scene would sell lots though. If they got more security and noone died of E for a year or something... Which most likely isn't going to happen. And thats sad :( I'm just rambling.. sorry.

unfortunately the media has this motto: if it bleeds it leads....good news will never make more money than tragedies :(

Are you so surprised that the human race is so entertained by others pain?? We have been raised to find entertainment in observing the suffering of others. It's sad yes but whats worse is the fact that it's horribly horribly true.

I don't know. I think you give people a little less credit than they might deserve. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who are different. I know lots of people who don't even get the newspaper and only watch the news for the weather because they're sick of it. I guess that's just also due to the crowd i hang out with too. Oh well. But the news has been doing the same old for over one hundred years, so no one really knows if that's still the truth (that tragedies still sell more papers). But it's true that the news only focuses on tragedies of people, and I agree that yes it's quite sad. But that's why we're here right? :p

^^^ hey cool youre from CO as well...
... here is the thing... when there is something terrible on the cover of a news paper people that are walking by are like,"whoa, what happened?"; and buy. But in my opinion there is not enough good... being sought after in the first place... much less get reported. I try and be good and do something nice every day... i know that it wont get in the news paper but at least i made a difference in someones life.

It seems that in todays society people are to interested in finding the faults in society instead of looking to all the good and meaningful acts that do occur. If people were able to see the good in others than we wouldn't have half the problems in society today that we currently have because people could trust and understand each other rather than stereothype. People just need to open their eyes to the world around them and not just the newspaper.
