I mean honest mistakes happen, like 10 years ago I forgot I had a switchblade in my backpack and tried to get on a plane. They pulled it out and said I had to throw it away... no biggie. Mistakes happen.
I even know a guy who accidently took a handgun to the airport in his camera bag, his wife had stored it (unloaded, & on safe) in the bag, and he didn't realize. After a lot of questioning they realized it was a mistake and they let him go.
