^^^

If you're bitter and angry with them they will put on rubber gloves and take you into the back room.

Be friendly and polite, no matter how rude they are.

Cheer for the Bills and Sabres. A) Because Buffalo sports teams kick ass and B) because noone from outside the States has any reason to cheer for a Buffalo sports team and would never consider using Buffalo as a cheering team. Mostly reason A is important though.

Yes, they can do something. Even if they can't prove that you've done something wrong, they can refuse to let you pass and send you right back home again. It's happened to me before. If you really care about going to this party then don't try any funny stuff, because they have the authority to ban you for as long as they want for any reason.

Once you've been refused or banned it gets harder to get through later, because your name will be in the computer and if they look you up they will ask a lot of questions and possibly refuse you again. Don't take the risk, you'll regret it later.

I had a customs guy last time that was convinced that we had pot in our car. Even though we didn't and never did. I think he just thought we looked like the kind of people that would and was just trying to get us to crack. Man i hate going thru customs. What good are they anyways. Drug smugglers still get their payload accross the boarder and innocent people like us get pull aside and harassed.

I hate US customs.

But seriously, EagleScorpion, just be straight up honest with customs, there's no point lying to them because then if you end up getting banned or better yet strip-searched, you'll regret it later on.

all these bad stories of customs made me wanna write something
I have drive through the canadian border about 50 times, and never had one problem.
Once I even went through when I was 16 by myself and didnt have any problems.
Just have your ID ready, dont joke around, but dont be super serious either, just act natural and only answer what is asked of you, UNLESS the person starts making small talk with you, which they often will, i have been asked if I liked the vikings because my plates are Minnesota, and then you can answer like you would with anyone else, just act natural, and dress like you are going to your grammas, not like dressy but semi conservative..
I have always just said I was visiting friends in Toronto, no matter what I am doing while I am in toronto, I am always visiting friends also, and that stops questions you might not know the answer to, as often I dont know every aspect of the event I am attending.
good luck guys
ALSO taking a plane or train makes customs MUCH easier than yer trusty ol automobile

For those of us with no cars, Greyhound is a lifesaver. 50 USD, round trip, and travel in comfort (provided you bring food, a CD player, and a pillow... which I do).

Whenever i have gone over the border there hasnt been any problems. Last hulla we just said we were going clubbing and shopping and they just let us go. In all reality they are just doing their job so be patient with them and you shouldnt have any troubles.

I am extremely patient and kind. But I always have problems. My girlfriend and I recently bought a nice Audi A4 with tinted window, lowering springs, and nice 18 BBS wheels. After less than a year of driving it we are selling it because we are sick of the profiling. Cops are always pulling us over in it and we always get big hassles at the border. It's just not right. I like nice cars. That doesn't make me a thug or a drug dealer or something. We both have college degrees and work very hard for our money at honest jobs. I feel really bad for people of racial minorities. They must have to go thru this harassment all the time. Having this car has made me realize just how f’ed up the legal system is.

Sorry, didn’t mean to rant… I think my point was that if you have to cross the boarder borrow your mom’s Ford Taurus .

can't you smoke weed in canada and not get in trouble???

so you're saying that cuz im gonna b 17, and my passanger is 16, we'll need written permission about what all we're doing from both our parents? and we need a birth certificate and ID? wow...sounds like a hastle, but its better to kno about that ahead of time so we dont get stuck having to turn back... anything else you guys kno about that i should prolly kno since we'll both b minors?

^^ It depends on where you are coming from, how many layovers, so forth... it's always been just shy of 50 round trip for me, heading up day of event and coming back day after. But then, I'm not very far away.

Interestingly, the story that got me through customs faster than any other - which I've used ever since - has been "I'm going to see some friends and go drinking". Now, I'm not necessarily recommending this to you guys - particularly sub-21ers - but I got incredible hassle when I tried "I'm visiting my girlfriend," and waved through without even a search for the drinking bit.

It also is a convenient way to explain away why you look so hung over on the way back. Particularly if you are, in fact, hungover.

^^^

That man knows what he's talking about.

If there are popular bars, casinos, or shopping centers just across the border from where you cross, tell 'em that's where you're going and 9 times out of 10 they'll let you right through. They like it when we spend our money in their country.
