how can a political/economic system work "in theory" and not in practice?
a political system is meant to address the issue of how people interact with each other and create guidelines under which those interactions will function best for those involved... if a political system fails in practice, it must be disregarding something important in its theory.
marx's theories weren't perfect but unapplicable - that makes no sense. marx's theories were flawed because they sought to implement a non-hierarchical economic system via a hierarchical government, and those in power abused their position and became obsessively controlling, while he thought the government would simply wither away gradually on its own.

i think you took "in theory" too literally. what i think it implys is, as a poor person it would be ideal if we could redistribute the wealth. but realistically that won't happen.
