anyone feel no hullas will lead to better smaller house parties?

just a thought but imagine you could eliminate the idea of no room to dance and all the sleazy ass holes but keep the positive vibe...

seeing nothing but your friends as you look around, heard about the party through a flyer emailed to you and keep the place to a comfortable size of 500 or so, wouldn't that be better than spending $30 for something last minute?

what is meant by your first choice? do you mean continue to go out and support groups like the goodfellaz, quixotic, FPS, and just 4 you? or do you mean only support "underground" parties?

this thread has weird and confusin' written all over it
hulla isnt the only production company, as courtney [itsgigglegirl] stated ^--there are the older companies: goodfellaz, icantstopraving, destiny [not a hulla faV.], just4u, GFX..etc, and there are also..the upcomin companies: FPS [future perfect synergy, aidacks ..and porlly others that i cant think of cuz it is ...1:30am:P

but im not sayin hulla hasnt paved the way for the hardcore scene in toronto...even canada! its helped greatly..and losin it, will hurt the scene...but wont crush it

...goooooo hardcore! dont let it die!

What I meant was how do you like to spend your money? Is it going to a freetekno party, an overnight camping trip, a rave in montreal where they don't stop until noon the next day? About my first poll choice, and other questions, I don't feel like elaborating. Aside from thinking about the implications of hulla throwing a last event. I certainly wouldn't support an inadequate such as lack of fire-exit, or improperly ventilated venue

uhm

'going to a freetekno party' is not a way to 'spend your money'

and what does this have to do with house parties???

what the hell are you talking about

Talking could be some thing here but maybe not

ok as a Hardcore promoter in toronto, i will miss hulla, but i don't really see a light at the end of the tunnel, some companys will still be there but will they do anything new or differnt? will they allow new dj's to take up a home? will eliteism in companys continue?

most of those answers are NO, i'd like to put my faith in Goodfellaz,Destiny and all the other big guys but (no offence James i still love your partys) i see nothing new come'n out of these big companys and most of the big ones don't book hardcore dj's, deffinutly not Happy Hardcore and the ones who do, don't book anything all that diifernt from their last event, i know that if you find a formula that works you should stick with it, i found out that a solid line up and CHEAP tickets works very well, but i will still alter my line ups to inclued those who are dieing to or haven't spun for me yet, for the very reson that i've not been able to break out of small events (also cause when i started i sucked and it's hard to shake that image).

one of my Dreams as a hardcore dj was to spin a hulla at least once b4 it stopped (cause come on,nothing lasts forever) and you know, ppl i helped teach or give a start to did it b4 me, and i'm a little upset that it'll never happen for me, hell i spun a club in london UK b4 i spun a hulla. Any ways frolic has done well with opening his doors to new dj's, not as well as others but once again he found a formula that worked and stuck with it (good for him) and i get the feeling that the Hardcore seen needs new blood, so i say one thing that'll help us keep our (Hardcore) scean going is the exceptance of risk's and new ppl on the decks, now i know that the new ppl thing puts me out in the cold but hey i can live with that if i can still throw a hardcore party and not worry about loosing my shirt to sum big ass Jungle Company or an other hardcore company talking shit to ferther there own company, we are a comunitee and we need to act like one or perish, no more should we treat this like a capitolist endever, i'll make a start and say that, will any one follow through and help make it happen?, can't do it on my own

it's up to us, no one but us
help keep the scean alive, be good to each other
(odd for me to say, seeing as i'm a very cinical person)
anyways rant done

some of those "barebones minimal sound/lighting" parties are really fun. seriously. the best party i ever went to was a breakcore/idm party thrown by Pin:ksox underneath the bathurst street bridge. they had a projector set up with a great visual display playing on of the bridges support column. i remember one of the videos being shown was an autopsy...

everyone was drunk as fuck and a lot of the peoples looked more like punk rockers than partykids. very friendly too, a great vibe all around.

also, a freetekno event can involve spending money jeremy. i often buy booze so i can get drunk off my ass at freetekno parties. thats spending money. i also have no problem pitching in 10 bucks if there is a donation jar put out.

personally i think playing for one of the big companies is a privilege that one must earn by playing smaller parties, handing out cds and making a name for yourself first. the bigger companies are big for a reason. they put in a lot of effort and grew there reputation. they require bigger venues to accomadate all their patrons, more equipment for sound and lights to make the larger venue sound and look good and therefore their expenses are higher. to recover their costs they have to charge a bit more and bring in djs that people would be willing to pay that extra bit for.

i'm not saying that some of the lesser known djs are inferior to the ones that get booked at the big parties. in fact many of them are just as good or better. they just need to make a name for themselves first and if there is a demand by the people to see them at the bigger parties, they will eventually be booked. i believe it is called paying your dues.

as far as doing something new and different, what would you like to see? while i do feel hulla parties often feel the same (not that its bad b/c hullas are always fun), other companies are coming up with great ideas. goodfellaz parties always have a unique theme and a new venue which seperate them and make them feel different. they are also really good about giving new people a chance to show what they can do and bring other genres to give people something new to hear. tag your it was another awesome theme and turned out to be a lot of fun. if you have an idea you think would make for an amazing event, do it. if people like the idea, they will support it.

wow, that was alot longer than i intended. i'm done now.

i want to hear breakcore at a large venue party. that would be new and different. it would also never happen. same with an electro set. think you would ever hear electro at destiny? probably never gonna happen. although it should because their are a lot of people down with electro in this city. or how about a techno set that doesnt consist entirely of hard, hard acid, and/or tribal techno. you know, maybe some nice oldskool detroit techno and some tech-house. also not gonna happen (well, tech-house, maybe at a smaller party. Engine spins tech-house sometimes... and acid house and electro too).

so yeah, these things would all be very cool and different, but would never happen.

mel when i say electro i don't mean nu-electro which its had its time in the trendy spotlight, i mean shit like zapp & roger, twilight 22, egyptian lover, cybotron, dynamix II, 2 BMF, george clinton, afrika bambataa, kraftwerk, etc. good classic 80s electro. the closest you might come to that at a party is some dirty south or booty bass hip hop mixed into a booty set. the only time i've ever heard classic electro at a party was when airheads threw their cherry beach party last summer.

and when i say "breakcore" i don't mean the old breakbeat hardcore, i mean music like Shitmat or Duran Duran Duran. do you think any of the big party companies would have the good sense to bring in Shitmat? i think not.
