Two newbies from Mi

Hey everyone! My friend and I really want to come to this next party, but we are running on an extremely tight budget right now and arent quite sure what to expect to bring in the way of preparations. We live in Royal Oak, Michigan...just a little north of Detroit.

Over the last couple of nights I have been doing a lot of praying to the finance gods and trying to figure out how much money I should expect to part with that night, and how to fit it into my check book. I figure $15 for gas between the two of us, there and back, snacks on the way, admission, and money for some other stuff. What can I expect the ticket prices to be at the door? Actually... can I even expect there to be any tickets available? We would probably try to leave and drive straight home after the Hulla so we dont have to spend money on a room or whatever. If anyone has any information that would be useful to us, please help us out. (extra things i didnt think about.. etc) Also, what is the cost of water at the venue usually?

Hopefully I'll get to meet a lot of you there!

^^^ drink a lot of water before you go in... also just buy your tickets online before you even go so the drive isnt for naught... ...if you need anything while in the venue... i will be in a green zelda shirt with Evangelos ironed on to the back... ill get you some water or candy if you need some...

you get my vote for nicests person! yo didn't some one have a bunch of hulla board awards posted a while back?

i would suggest to bring at least $80. that will probably cover anything you need for the night tickets, water etc.
is this gonna be your first hulla?

***please note ALL numbers mentioned are in CAD!!!***

definately buy your tickets online..
get your parents or something to pay for them with their credit card, and then you can pay them back in a week or two when you have some more money after the party (as thier bill wont come in for a few weeks anyways)... they tickets will be waiting for you at the door.. just make sure to bring some ID, and maybe a note from the person who's credit card you used. (as your name and the name on the card won't match most likely).

expect more than $30 in gas. .that'll get you one way..
it takes me about 3 tanks to get from Toronto to Detroit and back... at $40 CAD a tank, you've underestimated at that... expect about $50 USD in gas... the last thing you need is to run out on the side of the road

bring $15 each for food (pre-party meal, post party breakfest). you'll need it.. trust me.. nothing worse than being hungry

Make way for the other expenses.. like coat check, parking, etc... things you'll totally forget about... so we'll set aside $10 each for that..

Here's a few things that may or may not apply to you... depends on the person.. but if you fall into any of these catagories, try your best to NOT fall into them this weekend..
Drinking, Smoking, Drugs

all in all.. here's my breakdown..

Ticket - $30
Gas - $25
PreParty Meal - $6
Post Party Breakfest - $5
Water at the venue - $4
Coat Check - $3
Parking - $2

Personal Total - $75 x 2 People = $150 CAD
(approx $61 / person, or $122 total USD)

**Please keep in mind this is a very LIGHT budget, and being very conservative.. expect at least another $20.00 each.. and MAKE SURE you have some sort of backup plan incase you need money in a case of emergency.. ie: Loose your current money, your car breaks down, or something of the sort**

good luck, and hopefully we'll see you there

drinking, man oh man if you're at a party and you decide to get into the drinking, your pockets are suddenly just totally empty
damn party bars

oh and do make sure to hold onto your water bottle once you're done to refill it in the bathroom, it's a lot of money if you gotta pay it again

if you're literally walking out the doors and getting in your car
please make sure to be responsible and safe
driving on drugs is bad
and staying up all night sober and then driving totally cracked out from no sleep is certainly not any better

yes..... that's an excellent point made.
for some of us it's not so bad, as we only have a 10 or 20 minute drive home..
but you guys will be going for hours..
even if you take turns sleeping/driving, it's still really bad

i know from experience.. driving from Michigan back home to Toronto after leaving at 4am, we were still falling asleep at the wheel, and we had another 2 people to keep us up... we did 2 drivers, 2 passangers, who were supposed to keep our minds on the road..

even with that, its so hard not to doze off.. eyes slowly shut, and WHAM.. accident, or in these conditions.. off the road

your best bet is to see if you can find someone who is getting a room in town, or someone who lives close by who might be able to put you up for an hour or two so you can get at least a bit of sleep..

please.. dont drive drunk, high, or tired.
it's not just a risk on yourselves, but a risk to everyone else on the road too :/

I'm always suprised at how little I spend when I go to Canadian parties. Although, will the falling US dollar it isn't as great as it use to be.

hey yo, im from michigan too ^_^ from detroit or port huron, expect about $60ish in gas there and back, hold on to $80 for GP. so make sure to adjust your gas for how much gas it'd take to get from where you live to detroit and back.
$25 american for the tickets, unless you buy them at the door, and i have no clue what it is at the door. the suggestions for food cash above are a good estimate.

Have fun at your first hulla guys! ^_^

i would NOT bring in with you your money for the gas on the ride home..you need that money for gas, thus you will NOT need it in the party, hide it in your trunk or something....but its REAL easy to spend money at the bar and such, and you wouldnt want to find yourself stranded...

Or, if there's not many of you, you could always sleep in your car at a rest stop. That is, if you're stuck and can't find a place to crash.

Thank you all very much for all the good advice. Yes, we will definately take care not to drive when we shouldnt be. That pretty much goes without saying. My friend took the next day off of work too, so now there isnt quite as hard a push to be back at any certain time either. I can't wait.. only 3 more days! See you all there!
