HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF: IS SOMETHING TO RAVE ABOUT
My recent arrival back to Prince Edward Island, (the birth place of Canada)was with out much fanfare, but a true sense of, Eh I am proud to be a Canadian. And as an observer of sorts, I always get a sense of God, this is the nicest place in the world to reflect the things from away. Now, I can logically reason, gratefully acknowledge, the biassed approach in reporting of the media. The of the universal highly social musical celebration of youth in our culture today..... The emergence of a international bridge
built on sound technology, a genre of musical forms known as aka: electronica, techno or mainstream in... THE RAVE.
I am writing, in the hopes, that you can acknowledge a sense of acceptance, as open minded adults, and consider personal admissions of our own inspiring
pasts, youthful histories, and the generation gap we shared with our music.
I am sure we can all ponder in poised wonderment, of the days of hair, love and beads, flared blue jeans, and our own parts in the musical culture called, rock and roll. Oh yes, lets not forget our dashing disco days, and
the whole culture surrounding the artistic.... and boom, boom, boom, commercial potential of that time, music, and beat of creativity. Like the last song at closing time, a strangely old but totally new reasoning appeared, in my own invisible sphere of music the one, two, three, four, the
media packaged presentation of the new millennium. Surely, everyone must asking the logical question, as open minded citizens, members of society, responsible adult role models of the world :Is there, or wasthere, any difference besides time frames, of these important musical creative faucets
of our colourful history, and this new generation and gap. I was wrong, They (the ravers) have my greatest acceptance, appreciation and deepest respect, for the new music and art forms that has become adult mainstream.
We hear, smell, taste this new sound everyday. If you can appreciate, and acknowledge the corporate global advertisement of the cars, food, clothing,
and even governments ad campaigns, are influenced by this new tribal musical experience. Regardless of the obvious. The know it all media, plights community against youth, and the reported drug use and other illegalities
mentioned by the press are counterbalanced.... music and drugs are one.
I feel that I am a part of the ongoing struggles of our youth, their liberties, and the freedom of expressions. As an adult, I feel it is also my
responsibility to speak out on behalf of truth, and my own personal involvement in the rave culture scene in Halifax, N.S.. I was a victim of an
illegal body search at a Halifax Rave, on January 29th,of 2000. As a matter of fact, subsequently I am involved in a lawsuit filed against the R.C.M.P., and the Halifax City Police, along with 33 others including staff,
volunteer, and security. We are being represented by, Mr. J. Walter Thompson of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association who filed a complaint under
section 23(1) of the Police Act and flagrantly broke the law. I cannot be silent to the hypocritical view points we seem to on our youth in this free world today. I am fed up with the redounded dialogue of not trusting
anything or anybody that we do not understand, and these outdated contradiction have been going on for far to long... I have personally met in
the last six months some of the most creative, talented, and responsible
individuals from all over the world. The Rising stars of our youth and the
musical technology they have inherited. from us adults. It is also a fact
that I am over forty, and when I was growing up as a teenager it was not
cool to trust anyone over that age. US and THEM, maybe for you but not for
me. This is the beginning of a new millennium and I would like to say, that
hey kids!!! (YOUTH) You are all right, trust me, although I am over forty.
Always remember, that music is a universal language, creativity is endless,
knowledge is limited. Do not believe in everything you hear. OR, maybe it is
STILL true to this very day : HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF: DO NOT TRUST ANYONE
OVER FORTY...for all of us, I hope not. As they say at the celebration of a
Rave...... PLUR....... Peace, Love, Unity, Respect.
Yours truly, Concerned Citizen,

Cuz you can't, you won't and you don't STOP!
Mike D come on and rock the sure shot.

I've got the brand new doo-doo guaranteed like yoo hoo
I'm on like Dr. John, yeah Mr. Zuzu
I'm a newlywed, I'm not a divorcee
And everything I do is funky like Lee Dorsey.
Well it's the taking fo Pelham, one two three,
If you want a doo-doo rhyme then come see me
I've got the "Savoir Faire" with the unique rhyme and
I keep it on and on, it's never quittin' time ane
Strictly hand held is they style I go
Never rock the mic with the pantyhose
I strap on my ear goggles and I'm ready to go
Cuz' at the boards is the man they call the Mario
Pull up at the function and you know I Kojak,
To all the party people that are on my bozak,
I've got more action than my mam John Woo
And I've got made hits, like I was Rod Crew!

Because you can't, you won't and you don't STOP!
You can't, you won't and you don't STOP!
You know you can't, you won't and you don't STOP!
AD ROCK come and rock the sure shot!

Hurricane will cross fade on your ass and bust your ear drums,
Listen everybody, 'cuz i'm shiftin gears, I'm
Fresh like Dougie when I set my specs and
On the microphone I come correct
Timing like a clock when I rock the hip hop
Top notch is my stock on the soap box
I've got more rhymes than I've got gray hairs,
And that's a LOT because I've got my share!
I've got a hole in my head and there's no one to fix it
Gotta' straighten my thoughts, i'm thinkin' too much sick shit
Everyone just takes and takes, takes, takes, takes, takes
I've got to step back, i've got to contemplate
I'm like Lee Perry, I'm very on
Rock the microphone and then i'm gone
I'm like Vaughn, Bode, I'm a Cheech Wizard
Never quittin', so won't you listen?

Ah yes, Ah yes, Ah yes *insert cheesy waxing* ah yes, ah yes, ah yes, ah yes indeed it's fun time...fun time

Because You Can't, You Won't And You Don't STOP!
You can't, you won't and you don't STOP!
Oh well you can't, you won't and you don't STOP
MCA come and rock the sure shot

I wanna say a little something that's long overdue
The disrespecting women has got to be through
To all the mothers, and the sisters, and the wives and friends...
I wanna' offer my love and respect to the end
Well you say I'm 20-something and i should be slackin'
But I'm workin' harder than ever, and you could call it mackin'
So I'm supposed to sit upon my couch watchin' TV
I'm still listenin' to wax, i'm not usin' the CD
Well, I'm that kid in the corner
All fucked up, and I wanna' so I'm gonna'
Take a piece of the pie...why not? I'm not quittin?
Think Imma change up my style just to fit in?
I keep my underwear up, with a piece of elastic
I use a bullshit mic that's made out of plastic!
To send my rhymes out to all of the nations
like MA BELL, I've got the Ill communication

Because you can't, you won't and you don't STOp!
oh no you can't you won't and you don't STOP!
I know you can't you won't and you don't stoP!

Thumbs up

I admit that I didn't read all that was written (it should be broken into smaller paragraphs so it's easier to read), but I did skim and saw that you are involved in a lawsuit agaist the police for their behavior. For that, I applaud you. I am from America, so I don't know how the system works in Canada, but the laws here are designed to protect the citizen and im sure that's how they are there too. To see someone using these laws to "stick it to the man" if you will, make me very happy. That's what the law is for, do whatever you can to keep the police accountable to their very own system!

[B]I THINK SO![/QUOTE]
GIRLS! Yah all I really want is GIRLS!
And in the morning it's GIRLS!
Cuz in the evenings its girls

I like the way that they walk
And it's chill to hear'em talk
And I can always make'em smile
From WhiteCastle to the Nile

Back in the day
There was this girl around the way
She liked my homepiece MCA
He said he would not give her play
I asked him please he said "you may"
Her pants are tight and that's okay
If she would dance I would Deejay
We took a walk down to the bay

I hope she'll say
"Hey me and you should hit the hay"
I asked her out she said "No way!"
I should have prolly guessed her gay
So I broke Earth(?) with no delay
I heard she moved real far away
That was two years ago this May
I seen her juss the other day
JACKIN MIKE D TO MY DISMAY!

GIRLS to do the dishes!
GIRLS to cleam up my room!
GIRLS to do the laundry!
GIRLS and in the bathroom!

That's all I really want is girls!
Two at a time I want girls!
With new wave hairdo's I want girls!
I oughta whip out my GIRLS!

GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS GIIIIRRRRLLLLLS! YEAH!

everyone loves the beasties!!

and, Saber, i was at that party (Repercussionz)in HAlifax . luckily i was standing outside in the freezing cold for just under four hours bitching about getting frostbite and not realizing at the time quite hoq lucky i was not to be in side! but i had friends who were. and what the police did was not only illegal, it was an abuse of basic human rights. this isn't something you'd expect in a supposed first world country. i hope your law suit goes well. you're doing the right thing, in my opinion.

i know it's been a year since the event but the HRM really don't seem to have woken up to the reality that parties are a part of urban culture now and that harm reduction is the key to safe parties, not outlawing them and alienating the entire party scene.

i love the replies here.

you know, i wouldn't say this in general, but that is fucking pathetic.

hey, does the TDSC meet anymore? i still see trip booths and i'm proud to say one of their city-funded volunteers made fun of my ecko hoodie at..um... atm reunion 2.

i was mostly wearing the hoodie for non-serious satirical reasons. it's funny, because no one makes fun of my lab coat. even though it looks stupid.

someone i know just had a friend die from an overdose of an obscure 'new' drug.

but no one ODs in toronto anymore.
that was so 1999.

hey, anyone know where i could find some locked or obstructed or otherwise inaccessible fire exits at common venues?

honestly people, i don't feel like defending my scene again. next time, i'm moving.

The above is so true. It's sad tho, the scene is just not the same, obviously. I mean im not oldskool as some, but I love it and it's sad that we can't even do anything really that would push a positive light onto the public. Although, I think with it becoming so much more mainstream we don't even have to, we should tho.
