Meh, I haven't been paying attention to any news the last few days and you know what? This hasn't been on my mind whatsoever.

I'm glad these guys were thwarted, but lets just move on with our lives. The 24 hours news world just spins all of us into a tizzy and for no reason really.

meh.. I'm not worried.
Thousands of flights happen daily around the world.
There's been almost 5 years since the last terrorist attack on a plane.

If we say there's 1000 flights a day, 4 went down on Sept 11th 2001, and there was 24 bombers found (assuming they each take a plane EACH, when it was probably more like 1 place per 6-8 people) then we can say this..

365 (days/year) x 1000 (flights per day) x 5 (years in between) = 1,825,000
1,825,000 - 4 (Planes from Sept. 11) - 24 (bombers) = 1,824,972

28 planes and their passangers suffer a terrible last few moments and die.
1,824,972 planes and their passangers make it safely to their destinations.

I'll take my chances. I'm not worried.

actually Tranzit, I don't thik it's valid to count the bombs that didn't make it through. because really, lots of bombers are stopped, this was just one of the more significant catches. I'd only factor in the successful crashed planes, which makes the ratio even better.

I've never been afraid of flying. people who are afraid of terrorists and don't live in either NYC, London, or anywhere in the Middle East are idiots.

^ whatever the "real" story is, I included it, as that's what the "general public" believes

I even checked up on it... From what I'm being told, there's well over 1,000 flights a day. Like, significantly more, so my ratio is bad compared to what it really should be.

Well I have been to England and back...
The airports were crazier than usual, but nothing insane. I wondered how it would be since I was an American flying out and back into Canada. Flying TO England was pretty easy. You could take your usual carry-ons, just without any liquids. The airline we were on however, did their usual drink services (not increasing service since you couldn't bring on your own liquids) and my friend and I were terribly dehydrated by the end of the flight. You never realize how much you need something until it's gone!

When we got to Gatwick Airport, everything seemed to be running alright, except for the mass amounts of luggage piled up that missed their owners because of delayed flights and other stuff.

While we were in England we saw pictures of all the lost luggage and heard stories about people being forced off of flights and such. Yes, we also heard the theory that the whole thing was set up by the British Government.

Coming back home was a little bit crazier. We were flying stand-by, so we needed to get to the airport 4 hours max before the flight was leaving. We figured we would be there earlier than everyone else for the flight. When we got there however, over half of the people had already checked in for the flight! People apparently had been coming waaaaaaaaaay early for their flights to make sure they got through security! I went prepared to check everything but my passport and wallet, but they were allowing ONE carry on that was the size of a small briefcase. Still no liquids, but once you got through security (and as long as you weren't traveling to the US), you could buy liquids at the shops inside the gates (i.e. at the duty free).

It was hilarious though to watch people try to get stuff through security. They weren't messing around when they said ONE carry on that is SMALL in size. We had a seat in a lounge near a security checkpoint and played "who's gonna make it" and giggled when people had to go back to check their ridiculously large bags

All in all...it wasn't so bad...of course we knew what to do and played by the rules so we really had no problems.

i always thought the rule was as long as it fit under the seat infront of you, or the overhead compartment, it was ok in size...

no?

new rules my dear since the "terrorist plot". a week earlier and you couldn't bring anything on to the plane except for your wallet and passport in a small clear plastic bag (like a sandwich bag)
where have you been?
