Car repair and crossing the border

Mentioned this in another thread but I'll actually find the responses this way.

My car has some minor issues. Front passenger side blinker is gone- destroyed in a collision(not my fault for once, idiot cut me off) and that bit is still unrepaired. The headlight has been replaced, just that one blinker hasn't been.

Also, the muffler is a bit less than effective at muffling the engine noise... it's a bit loud. Would I get any crap at the border or from Canadian police when in country over this?

Some dents too, but thats just cosmetic damage.

The car is in reasonable condition otherwise. wont be a "how in the hell did this car survive the trip" type of thing. Just concerned about hte blinker mainly, some areas on this side of the border will ticket you for that and only that, and I don't know how strict canada is on noise ordinances(its maybe about as loud as a typical motorocycle, maybe a little less)

Border inspectors enforce national laws, not provincial or state laws. Traffic laws are all local. (Why they can't pull you over for being drunk). Once in Canada any cop who feels like it could pull you over. But this is Canada, they're not uh, dicks, like american cops. I wouldnt stress it too much

This is silly but is there anyway we can check national laws? Our car is having some last minute issues with lights (which will hopefully be fixed by the end of the today) and a missing fendor.

I've crossed the border with extremely LOUD cars. but my cars were loud due to after market exhausts, and I've NEVER once received any crap from the border cops

I don't think it's the border guard's responsibility to do a safety check on your car.

generally they won't hassle you, unless they feel the car will break down and possibly be abandoned in the country...

a missing blinker shouldn't be an issue, however if the muffler is REALLY bad, then they might say something... doubtful they'll stop you from entering though.

if they do ask, tell them you hit a pothole on the way from home, and the noise got bad after that, and you'll be getting it replaced as soon as you come back home in a few days... that'll give some reassurance to them, im sure.

But then they'll fail the lie detector tests.

And not to mention the spinal tap that usually gets people.

Yeah, but if that doesn't work, when they put that parasite thing in your brain it'll yank the truth right out.

That fucker hurts.

Well I had no problems... he seemed a little concerned about my not having a job currently and only 40 bucks cash on hand, but I mentioned I do have a few hundered in the bank which I do, and offered to show hotel reservations so he knew I wasn't just going to be wandering or anything like that. No crap about the car, no crap about the nolle'd misdemeanor charges. I was just a bit nervous about anything they could possibly use to deny me entry, its been way too long since I 've been to hulla(last one was Pacific Sun) so I was a bit scared.

Sitting at the hotel after my 12 hour drive(I hate the highway system here in ontario btw, was lost for at least an hour or two), loving the free wifi. I actually was annoyed I didn't checkt hat prior to making reservations... I did after and saw that that amenity was crossed out, suggesting tehy didn't have it... I guess the hotels.com listing hasn't been updated in a while.
